In a busy week at Arsenal the club have unveiled their new home kit for next term – in a move sure to upset large numbers of the club’s diehard fans who favour traditionalism over change.

The strip, designed by Puma for the 2018-19 season, has been launched on Tuesday morning – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hector Bellerin among the Gunners players used to promote the strip.

The kit is described as having a ‘Beat of the City’ pulse across the chest, in a nod to loyal fans that bring the club ‘to life’.

However, in a move to upset many ‘old school’ fans, the designers have abandoned the club’s traditional white sleeves with red trim, preferring to have white shoulders and a white arm with an ‘armlet’ featuring faded red.

However, John Williamson – who has supported the club for five decades – slammed the new strip, sharing his opinion on the strip, saying: “I’m not keen on our new home kit.

“The shirt should incorporate a full red body – I understand the need for different away colours, but dramatically changing our home kit erodes the history and traditions of our great club.”

Puma’s evoKNIT kit is also described as having ‘an enhanced moisture management and adaptive cooling system,” with a statement adding it is “created using a seamless evoKNIT construction that provides a lightweight ‘second skin’ feel, so the fabric acts in harmony with the player’s movements and not against them, allowing for improved performance on the pitch.”
