North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs will meet on Saturday lunchtime in a crunch title match, but two of their supporters groups have already faced off for LGBT History Month.
The Gay Gooners earned a 2-0 victory against the Proud Lilywhites at the Arsenal hub, Benwell Road, on Sunday.
The match was part of a Fans For Diversity football tournament hosted by Arsenal.
Gay Gooners went onto reach the final of the competition, where they narrowly lost to a team from Football v Homophobia.
Arsenal also backed Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to show that homophobia has no place in sport.
Ahead of the Gunners’ match away to Manchester United on Sunday, captains Laurent Koscielny and Wayne Rooney exchanged rainbow laces.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “We were proud to support the rainbow laces campaign again this year, because discrimination has no part to play in our game at all.
“Football is about people coming together for a common purpose, to share emotions and experiences. It should not be important who you are or where you are from.”
The Arsenal for Everyone campaign aims to ensure everybody connected with the club - irrespective of race, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability and gender - feels an equal sense of belonging.
