Petr Cech has assured Arsenal fans that his desire to win more silverware remains as intense as ever after completing his move from Chelsea.

The Czech Republic international won a total of 13 trophies – including four Premier League titles and the Champions League – during his career at Stamford Bridge.

But the 33-year-old – who is understood to have agreed a four-year deal with the Gunners – is eagerly anticipating further success with his new club.

“I first came to the Premier League a long time ago and I still love the challenges it poses, with the great players and great teams you have to face every week,” said Cech.

“Arsenal are a team that challenge for the top. I believe at this time of my career I have made a really good choice and will have the success that I hope to have.

“I am as hungry as ever and have the same motivation and commitment to win trophies as I had 10 or 15 years ago, and as a kid.

“I have to say that once I spoke to [manager] Arsene Wenger about the ambitions and motivations this club has, my decision was clear because I wanted to be a part of it.

“He made me believe that this was the right step and that this is the club with a lot of ambition. I have a lot of personal motivation and ambition and the club definitely match it.

“It is an exciting time for me. Arsenal fans and the club have been waiting for the Premier League title – this is a chance for me to bring my experience and my little extra to the team and we can possibly achieve that.”

Cech, who spent 11 years with Chelsea after joining them from French club Rennes, decided to leave after losing his place as their first-choice goalkeeper to Thibaut Courtois last season.

And Cech confirmed that the influence of international team-mate Tomas Rosicky, the Gunners’ longest-serving player, was a factor in persuading him to make the switch across London.

“Obviously we had time together with the national team but at the time I did not know what would happen,” added the keeper. “He seems happy always and he loves playing for Arsenal.

“He was excited about the idea that this could happen. He told me a lot of good things and he was one of the reasons why I decided to give it a go and meet with Arsenal.”

Cech could make his debut for the Gunners during their pre-season trip to Singapore in the Asia Trophy, a tournament that also features Everton and Stoke City, later this month.

They then return to London for the Emirates Cup before taking on Cech’s former club in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Wenger said: “Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us.

“He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad.”
