Arsenal footballer Jack Wilshere helped a group of pupils open their new school building on Wednesday.
The England star popped to Drayton Park Primary School, in Highbury, close to Emirates Stadium, to cut the ribbon on their new community arts centre.
Children met the midfielder and asked him to show off his creative side – painting alongside the school house captains.
Jack said: “It’s always nice to get out in the community and see some of the activity which the club supports.
“It’s great that The Arsenal Foundation is helping projects like this that are right on the doorstep – the Emirates is literally two minutes away – and it was fun getting my hands dirty and doing a bit of art with the kids, although I think they were much better than I was.”
The Morris Art and Community Building was part-funded by The Arsenal Foundation and will not only provide a new facility for the school, it will be somewhere community groups and artists in the area can hire out. It also received £50,000 from the Morris Charitable Trust, based in Islington.
Damien Parrott, head of Drayton Park, said: “We can now offer enhanced teaching facilities for our own pupils and their families, which will help us achieve our aim of excellence in every way.”
