Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been ruled out of action for up to six weeks according to reports in France.

Giroud, 31, played in the 1-0 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarter final on Tuesday evening, but was forced to leave the field with 12 minutes remaining with a hamstring injury.

Speaking after the match Gunners boss Arsene Wenger indicated the injury would mean Giroud would miss three weeks but the muscle tear has proved to be worse than originally thought, meaning the French forward will not be available for selection until February at the earliest.

The reports came from respected French national sports newspaper L’Equipe who say he could miss as many as ten matches including both legs of the league cup semi final tie against London rivals Chelsea.

The outlet also suggested the injury will prevent the former Montpelier frontman from leaving the Emirates during the January transfer window.
