Arsenal youngsters record gun crime single

Arsenal have teamed up with the cream of the UK’s hip-hop scene to release a single about the dangers of gun crime.
The track, which is a cover of UB40’s 1986 hit Sing Your Own Song, is released under the name London Kids on this week, and will be played before the Gunners’ home games against Liverpool on April 17 and Manchester United on May 1.
To record the song, children from Arsenal in the Community’s social inclusion programme joined up with rapper Blak Twang, RnB newcomer Rian Peters and Judd Lander, best known for playing harmonica on the Culture Club number one Karma Chameleon.
The lyrics have been re-written to help raise awareness of the impact that gang culture and gun and knife crime can have on young people.
Project leader John KeyesKeyes said: “Not every young person in this country carries a knife or a gun but these weapons can have a devastating effect on individuals and families. Brooke Kinsella’s report found that someone could be attacked simply for straying into a neighbouring postcode.
“In doing something positive and music-based, there is a chance we can make a genuine difference.”
