An audacious letting agent that lied about working with Islington Council to provide social housing is now £6,000 worse off.
Wentworth Housing Ltd, trading as Wentworth Estates, used the town hall’s name and logo on its website publicity without permission.
As a result, the Ilford firm was taken to court.
The firm had admitted the offences in 2016 and was cautioned, but failed to take down the claims and logo.
After another complaint last year, the council decided to take action. Islington also complained on behalf of Kingston Council, who the firm made similar claims about.
The company was found guilty of two offences last month and fined £1,200 – £600 per offence – and ordered to pay costs of £4,800.
Crime chief Cllr Andy Hull said: “We do not want our logo and reputation to be misused by unscrupulous businesses, nor give people a false sense of security. Wentworth didn’t listen the first time; I hope they have learned their lesson.”
