It was a devilish end-of-term library session for youngsters at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School with the visit of an award-winning author.

In an event organised by London Grid for London (LGfL) and ReadingZone, novelist Gillian Cross talked about her inspiration for writing and took questions from the children at the school.

As well as penning The Wolf and Shadow Cat, Gillian is best known for writing The Demon Headmaster, which spawned a CBBC television series of the same name in the 1990s.

Librarian Grainne Rooney said: “We hope that this is the first of many such events as they contribute to improving literacy and inspiring our children.

“The team from London Grid for Learning (LGfL) and ReadingZone commented on how immaculately behaved our children were.

“They showed incredible concentration and asked lots of intelligent questions.”
