A former Holloway prison inmate whose life blossomed after she set up a floristry business while in jail for drug smuggling got a royal surprise when she received a Prince’s Trust award.
Gina Moffatt, 34, was determined to turn her life around after she was torn away from her two young daughters and spent several years in the women’s prison in Camden Road, having been caught with cocaine at Heathrow on her way back from the Caribbean, aged 25.
She persuaded the prison governor to let her go to college to do a floristry course. And, while still inside, she set up a business selling flowers to staff, prisoners and their families.
Backed by the Prince’s Trust, when she left prison she set up Blooming Scent, a caf� and florist in South Tottenham that helps others needing a second chance.
She scooped the Prince’s Trust Young Achiever award last week – and it was the prince who broke the news to her at Clarence House. Ms Moffat, who was handed the honour by Hollywood star Gemma Arterton and survival expert Bear Grylls at a televised ceremony, said: “I’m so happy to win the award.”
