A former book shop in Archway has been given a new lease of life thanks to two friends whose dreams of opening a cafe have come true.

Crick’s Corner in Dartmouth Park Hill, which used to be Albert Crick’s book shop and lending library, celebrated its first birthday last week.

Owners Simon Ward and Kellee Hubbert, both from Archway themselves, deal in artisan coffee and baked treats. But they have kept some traditions going and customers can still borrow and donate books, while the back room has a gallery showcasing the work of Islington artists.

The cafe, which has also launched a “home brew” night with demonstrations from coffee experts, picked up a Time Out award for being one of the most-loved venues in Islington last year, just three months after opening.
