A Barnsbury entrepreneur who wants to make his favourite sport “accessible and affordable for everyone” has launched a tennis app.

Ganesh Rao, 39, of Islington Park Street, came up with the idea when he fancied a match in Highbury Fields but couldn’t find anyone to share a court with.

The doctor turned tech businessman says he discovered people were trying to find a tennis opponent on Gumtree – he thought there must be an easier way to do things.

“Tennis is a great sport but it’s no fun if you don’t have anyone to play with,” he said. “Frustrated that I couldn’t find anyone, I tried joining a tennis club but unless you knew people there you actually had the same problem – just an expensive one!”

Users can find each other and set up games, as well as rank their abilitiies so matches are fair. The app also shows you where nearby courts are. Spin is available from the App Store and Google Play.
