A community theatre in Barnsbury has been given more than £67,000 to develop a play celebrating 200 years of the Regent’s Canal.
Young Actors Theatre Islington, in Barnsbury Road, was awarded the money by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Ahead of the 2020 anniversary, the group will be researching people’s memories of living and working by the canal and working with schools will create a play for youngsters to perform on a floating stage.
A heritage map, exhibitions, a booklet, podcasts and school pack will all be produced as part of the project.
Artistic director Andrew Harries, said: “We can’t wait to work with local people to find out more about the social, cultural and economic history of the canal.”
