AN ARCHWAY park has won a Gold award from the Mayor of London for its work to combat crime and improve green spaces.
Elthorne Park, off Hazellville Road, was one of 21 open spaces across London to receive a gold Safer Park Award, the highest possible commendation. The award was presented to the Friends of Elthorne Park, who welcomed Dutch football legends Dennis Bergkamp and Johan Cruyff, and current Arsenal star Robin van Persie, to open the new astro-turf pitch in 2008.
London Mayor Boris Johnson said: “London boasts some of the most sublime green spaces in the country, and everyone deserves to enjoy their local parks without fear of crime. The scheme recognises the tireless work many unsung local heroes put into making green spaces more pleasant for everyone.”
