A Cally book publisher has partnered with a prison reading charity to cut its printing costs.
The Quarto Group’s head office is in Blundell Street, across the road from Pentonville Prison in Caledonian Road.
As part of Local Charities Day on Friday, it linked up with Shannon Trust, a charity that aims to get prisoners reading.
Quarto staff chose the trust due to the office’s proximity to troubled Pentonville. As part of the scheme, the charity saved 17 per cent on its printing costs for 6,000 books after Quarto made a deal with its print suppliers.
Shannon Trust chief exec Angela Cairns said: “We are delighted to be one of Quarto’s charity partners. With their help, we are unlocking the power of reading and transforming thte lives of thousands of men and women in prison each year. It’s a great example of how charities can work hand in hand with business to bring about change.”
