A RUN-down boozer in one of Islington’s most desirable streets is set to be the next pub to “go gastro”.
A couple have bought the Earl of Essex, in Danbury Street, Islington, for around 1million and are determined to transform its fortunes by appealing to well-to-do residents and foodies in the surrounding area.
James Grimes, the director of chartered surveyors AG&G, who were involved in the deal, said: “It’s been sold to a private couple who we’re sure will make a great success of the venture. Mayor of London Boris Johnson is a local so he might become a regular.”
The venue is currently licensed to serve alcohol until 12.30am every night of the week.
