A NEW stretch of railway that will make life easier for those travelling from Islington to South and East London will be opened by Mayor of London Boris Johnson next week.

Following an opening ceremony on Monday, the East London Line will run from Highbury and Islington to Dalston Junction and then down to Crystal Palace and West Croydon.

Richard Pout is the secretary of the Gospel Oak to Barking Line Users Group. He said: “Users are delighted that this last link in this phase of the over ground will start on Monday.

“It will make so many journeys easier after 19 years of hard graft and planning.

“Users think it is a little unfortunate that it was not practical at this stage for trains from Whitechapel and Dalston to continue to Camden Road and Willesden but difficulties with network rail have precluded this option.”
