A brand new £2.6million housing block is helping some of Islington’s most vulnerable people live closer to their families.
The 13 flats, in Leigh Road, Highbury, are specifically designed to make life easier for people with special needs and include a quiet room, sensory bathroom and 24-hour support from Holloway charity Centre 404.
But most importantly, they means 19 vulnerable adults from Islington who were previously housed miles away from the borough can live closer to their families.
Anne Tickell, a family carer, said: “Our daughter has been living in Kent for some years. This means she can move back and be close to her family, which is wonderful for her and us. She adores her home life and the opportunities that are available to her locally, such as swimming and wheelchair ice skating.”
Cllr Janet Burgess, Islington Council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “We’re very pleased to provide these great new homes for residents in the very greatest need.”
