A pregnant bulldog with life-threatening injuries was found covered in faeces and abandoned in a Finsbury Park alley on December 2.
The dog needed emergency surgery after she was discovered trapped in a fetid cage with wounds to her face near Florence Road.
The animal, which has since been named Florence, was taken to the nearby RSPCA’s Harmsworth Memorial Animal Hospital on the Andover Estate, where vets found her uterus, which has ruptured, had a dead puppy inside.
An RSPCA spokesperson told the Gazette: “She’s still poorly, but is recovering. She’s very sweet and loving.
“As she is still very poorly, we ware not looking for a new home for her just yet.”
RSPCA animal welfare officer Nicola Thomas said: “When I first picked her up she was covered from head to toe in faeces and smelled so awful.
“You couldn’t actually tell what colour she was meant to be.
“Dumping a dog for any reason is heartbreaking, but to think that this poor girl was so poorly and also in the midst of labour is just tragic.
“I really want to find the owner of this dog and would urge anyone who has any information or who may recognise her to contact the RSPCA immediately on our inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.”
