A bus exploded in a busy Finsbury street on Saturday night – just 36 hours before the anniversary of the London bombings.
The single decker 394 burst into flames nin City Road, near the corner of Haverstock Street, at around 9pm, before the back end blew up shortly after.
Paul Horrell, who lives nearby, said; “I was in the back of the house when I heard a massive bang – it must of been pretty loud because I can’t normally hear things form City Road.
“I didn’t think much of it, because you try not to get too worried.
“But then I heard the neighbours through the walls.
“So I went out the front and you could smell burning oil and the back of the bus was covered in flames.
“There were police and firemen but no ambulance.
“I think had been cleared off the bus and I don’t think anyone got hurt.
“I suspect the bus was burning for quite a while before the explosion. Maybe a battery caught or something.”
Police were called to the scene at about 8.20pm and closed the roads until 10.15pm when firefighters had the fire under control.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
A spokesman from Transport for London (TfL) said the bus suffered an engine fire and they would be looking into the incident.
