Hortensia Celis moved to London from Mexico 30 years ago and has lived in Holloway for 26 years. She’s now decided to turn her passion for food into a business by opening an authentic Mexican store.
It’s in Seven Sisters Road’s Junction Market and Hortensia feels the multicultural area makes it the ideal spot. She hopes the community will embrace the flavours her home country has to offer.
Hortensia moved to London at 14. She realised that her country’s food wasn’t represented, sparking the dream to open her store. And she feels the new store is a great way of helping the Latin American community.
She said: “I help organise events for the Latin American community, giving them the opportunity to meet each other and integrate into London.
“Anybody that wants to prepare their own Mexican food or for the Mexicans that miss their ingredients from home, they can come buy them here.”
