Greater width for bikers proposed as part of Transport for London’s Quietways project
A busy junction is set to be made safer for bikers as part of a London-wide cycle route.
The crossing of Farringdon Road with Margery Road and Calthorpe Street is part of Transport for London (TfL)’s Quietway - a network of cycle routes linking key destinations via back-street routes, parks, waterways and tree-lined streets.
Proposed changes to the Finsbury junction include moving the kerb on Margery Street to provide more width for those on two wheels, bigger pavements for pedestrians and a simplified traffic layout with less lanes.
A spokesman for TfL said: “This junction is already well used by cyclists.
“Our proposals aim to cater for the predicted increase in cyclists and improve road user safety.
“Pedestrian numbers are also expected to increase at this junction, and our proposals cater for this by providing more footway space.”
