A woman was “brutally punched in the face” during a racist attack on a rush-hour Overground train to Canonbury.
The assault took place on a packed carriage between Dalston Kingsland and Canonbury Station at about 6.40pm on Tuesday.
A 56-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated ABH, British Transport Police said.
Andreas, who witnessed the assault but didn’t want to give his surname, said: “A woman who was speaking Spanish on the phone got racially assaulted by a man on a full Overground train where people were standing close together.
“He shouted at her: ‘Get out of my country – speak English’.
“Then the woman told him off and the man brutally punched her in the face.
“The woman was bleeding and I gave her some tissues.”
