A car was caught under a waste lorry and thrown towards the concourse of Finsbury Park station this afternoon.
The smash happened at around 1.30pm in Seven Sisters Road, opposite its junction with St Thomas’s Road.
The Vauxhall car’s momentum was stopped by bins built into the ground. A female in the back seat was being treated by paramedics, but police said there are “no serious injuries”.
Bekithemba Ndiweni, 33, of Woolwich, witnessed the crash after buying a drink from Tesco Express. He told the Gazette: “We were standing, waiting, for the traffic lights to change at the crossing. The lorry and the car were going past each other.
“Somehow, I don’t know how it happened, the car got jammed underneath the wheels and was thrown in the opposite direction. It smashed into the bins.
“It was like when you squeeze a tennis ball, and it just pops out. It just flew.
“Those bins were built into the concrete. Without them, who knows what could have happened? It was so peculiar. One second, and bang.”
Jason Nelson, 26, of Kendal, Cumbria, said: “There was a huge crowd of people with traffic backed up in all directions. There was so many police officers and my first thought was that it was a bomb.
“It was just a strange atmosphere, people stood talking to each other as the emergency services were working on this car. Considering it’s not a fast road, the damage and position of the car was unbelievable.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We were called to a collision between a car and a van. There are no serious injuries. The road will reopen shortly.”
