There was carnage on the Cally Road during the Friday night rush-hour when a Royal Mail lorry got wedged beneath the Overground bridge.
The vehicle was stuck there for about 90 minutes before it was freed.
Onlooker Duncan Hamilton heard it happen from his flat. He told the Gazette: “I live next to the bridge and heard this loud scraping noise from inside my apartment.
“It was probably only stuck for around one-and-a-half hours but there was temporary traffic lights for a separate roadway repair so it was traffic carnage.”
Buses were diverted and the London Overground line was suspended while emergency services dealt with the situation.
