Islington planners will enquire into a new restaurant near a primary school after fears it was set to be run as a takeaway chicken shop.

Planning permission has been granted for a café in Highbury Park opposite St Joan of Arc School, but parents raised fears last week.

Cllr Andy Hull said he would look into the allegations and has now confirmed a planning enforcement team will be visiting the location.

He tweeted: “It has permission to become a restaurant but not a takeaway. With that in mind, our planning enforcement team are going to pay them a visit to enquire further as to details of their plans.”

The construction of a takeaway would go against a pledge made by Sadiq Khan last year to ban them opening within 400metres of a school.

In addition, new takeaways must sign up to minimum healthy food standards before receiving planning permission.
