A pop-up choir dressed as suffragettes belted out anthems for women outside Holloway prison on Saturday.
The event on International Women’s Day saw the Holler4Women Choir sing feminist hymn The March of Women outside the jail where the song was first written and sung more than 100 years ago.
Suffragette Ethel Smyth wrote the ballad in 1911 while imprisoned for her part in fighting for votes for women.
Denise Dobson, from Songworks Choir who staged the event, said: “It was moving at times – one elderly lady who was there said her mother had been held in a prison for being a suffragette.
“That was quite a moment.”
