Eight Islington tower blocks are under fire safety investigation in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Islington Council housing leader Diarmaid Ward said cladding samples from blocks in the Harvist Estate, Holloway; Brunswick Estate, Finsbury; and at Braithwaite House, off Old Street, have been sent for testing. It is widely thought flammable cladding caused the Grenfell blaze.
In all, 126 Islington blocks of six storeys or over were assessed.
Cllr Ward said: “We will do whatever it takes to ensure people are safe in our estates. We did a survey of our housing stock in line with government instructions, and carried out investigatory works on eight council blocks that have cladding.
“Samples of this cladding have been taken and sent to the Buildings Research Establishment for further testing. We will let residents know the outcome of the tests as soon as we are told.”
He added: “It is important to be clear that all of our council housing and estates fully comply with current fire regulations and are regularly inspected.”
