Families were transported back to the 16th century at the Charterhouse in Clerkenwell last week.
Morris dancers, folk crafts and a Punch and Judy show entertained guests at the Tudor mansion.
The eventwas set up to raise funds for a permanent public display of artefacts in partnership with the Museum of London.
Pupils at Charterhouse Square School took part in a competition to design the advertising poster and neighbouring pub the Fox and Anchor and Malmaison Hotel served up traditional treats.
The event was opened by actor Hugh Fraser, best known for playing Captain Hastings in the TV adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
Charlie Hobson, master of the Charterhouse, said: “It was a huge success and we were delighted that so many people were able to join us.
“This was the first fete in more than 400 years of the Charterhouse’s history and everyone had a great time.
“We had more than 600 visitors and it was an excellent chance to build the Charterhouse Square community.”
