Islington’s health chief Janet Burgess put her best arm forward for an early flu jab this week – and she’s urging others to do the same.
Cllr Burgess is encouraging people with health problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, or lung disease to look after themselves by getting an early jab. The NHS provides these injections for free to demographics most “at risk” from catching flu, such as people aged 65 or older.
“In the very worst cases flu can be fatal, said Cllr Burgess. “People at particular risk can have a free flu jab at their local pharmacy or doctor’s surgery.
“This week I’ve had my jab early at an Islington community pharmacy, and I’d like to encourage anyone else at particular risk to come forward and get their jab now.
“The council is also encouraging uptake of the flu jab for our frontline care staff who look after vulnerable residents in care homes and the community, as well as encouraging our provider partners to protect their staff caring for our residents by having the flu jab.”
