The town hall has revealed plans to clean up Islington’s dirty streets.
Starting in late spring, 86 street sweepers will be assigned their own beats and clean those roads a minimum five times a week.
Many of Islington’s streets are currently dirty and litter-strewn. Right now, street sweepers only deep-clean roads once a week, with litter picks twice a week.
In an interview with the Gazette in December last year, even Islington South and Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry griped: “I complain to the council about how dirty the streets are. They’re not as clean as they should be.” Although she did also stress the town hall is under severe financial pressure from government cuts.
The plans, which were announced by Islington Council today, will also see street cleaners assigned after refuse and recycling pick-ups, in order to clear up anything that may have been missed or spilled.
