Armed police swoop in Clerkenwell not terror related

Clerkenwell was brought to a standstill this afternoon after armed officers stopped a car in Farringdon Road.

The operation occured near the road’s junction with Bowling Green Lane at around noon. Three arrests were made, but the Metropolitan Police said it was not terror related.

It tweeted: “Vehicle stopped & 3 men arrested at approx 12pm in pre-planned operation by armed officers in #Farringdon Road, EC1. NOT terror related.”

Farringdon Road reopened at around 1.15pm.
