Basana Kimbembi to stand trial in April over alleged murder of Pentonville Prison inmate Jamal Mahmoud

The man accused of murdering Pentonville Prison inmate Jamal Mahmoud is set to stand trial on April 24 next year.

Basana Kimbembi, 34, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from top security Belmarsh Prison this morning.

Wearing prison issue clothes, Kimbembi spoke only to confirm his name. He was remanded in custody.

Mr Mahmoud, a 21-year-old father, died of a stab wound at the Caledonian Road prison on October 18.
