A 15-year-old who gun-butted staff while robbing hotels armed with a pistol has been caged for five years.

Ayuub Mohammed, of Rosebery Avenue, Finsbury, went on the rampage through King’s Cross, using a gun to threaten staff and guests in two hotels until a brave receptionist scared him off.

On February 27 the youth walked into the Arriva Hotel, in Swinton Street, pulled the pistol from his pocket and used it to beat the man behind the counter, ordering him to open the hotel safe.

The member of staff handed over a small amount of cash, before Mohammed threatened a guest and forced them to hand over £180 and their mobile phone.

Hours later at 3am he headed to the Howard Winchester Hotel, in nearby Argyle Street.

He asked the receptionist if there was a room available, then whipped out the gun. The courageous employee tried to grab the gun, forcing Mohammed to run off empty-handed.

Scotland Yard’s flying squad arrested him on June 19.

Det Con Dawn Bolitho, the squad’s investigation officer, said: “Despite his young age, Mohammed was willing to target these two hotels and commit serious offences for his own personal gain. What this sentence shows is that the law will fall heavy on anyone using guns to commit crime and intimidate people.”

Mohammed was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court last week after admitting two counts of robbery, one of attempted robbery and two counts of possession of an imitation firearm.

Detectives believe that Mohammed was not working alone.
