Police have confirmed the suspect package found on a bus in Holloway Road, causing the evacuation of Highbury & Islington station, was “non-suspcious”.
The 271 service to Moorgate was cordoned off near to Waitrose as the package was inspected.
A Met statment said: “Police were called to Holloway Road, [near] Highbury & Islington at 8.39am following reports of an item of unattended luggage onboard a route 271 Transport for London bus.
“Specialist officers attended. Cordons were put in place as a precaution whilst the item was assessed. It has since transpired that the abandoned suitcase was non-suspicious.”
The station is now back up and running, a Transport for London spokeswoman confirmed.
One woman who works in Holloway Road, but who didn’t wish to be named, told the Gazette: “The bus was sealed off and police were keeping people away, but didn’t say what was going on.
“All the shops were closed down and there was a lot of confusion. It was very crowded with the station closure, but now the bus has gone and everything is back to normal.”
