A pervert who groped a woman as she travelled through Islington on a train has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

David Healy-Bello was also handed a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexual assault on a woman on a mainline train from Old Street to Highbury and Islington.

Healy-Bello, 23, of Victoria Close, Barnet, was in the carriage of the train during evening rush hour in August last year when he spotted his victim.

The woman, 24, was standing up when she noticed the pervert leering at her before moving right in front of her and touching her inappropriately.

Both got off the train after it pulled in to Highbury and Islington and then walked to the northbound Victoria line platform.

The victim, uncomfortable at the man seemingly following her, stood away from him as she waited for the train.

When the Tube arrived she got on at which point Healy-Bello also got on, stood directly in front of her and inappropriately touched her again.

At this point the victim spoke up and confronted the man who got off at Seven Sisters station.

The woman reported the incident the following day and officers from British Transport Police tracked Healy-Bello using CCTV before arresting him in September last year.

He appeared at Blackfriars Crown Court on Monday September 23 and was sentenced to 10 months in prison suspended for two years.

He was also handed a 24-month supervision order and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Speaking after the sentencing, Pc Gareth Jones, the investigating officer, said: “This was a very upsetting and intimidating experience for the victim and I’d like to commend her for assisting officers at every stage, which was vital to securing the conviction of David Healy-Bello.”

The sentencing comes as BTP, Metropolitan Police Service Safer Transport Command, City of London Police and Transport for London tackle sexual harassment on public transport through Project Guardian.
