A “nasty” 19-year-old has been jailed for two years for assaults in Clerkenwell and Holloway.

On August 26 last year, Devonte Brown, of Enfield, committed actual bodily harm after getting off the 4 bus in Lever Street. He barged past a man, 43, who looked at him. Brown verbally abused and then hit him in the face with a rucksack - causing a cut close to his eye.

And on June 10 last year, he committed grievous bodily harm in Hornsey Road.

Brown was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Monday after admitting both charges before a trial was due to start.

Det Cons Annie Garrard, from the Met’s roads and transport policing command, said: “This was a nasty assault by a violent man. This sentence shows the seriousness with which the courts take this type of offence.

“We will continue working with our partners at British Transport Police and TfL to ensure we tackle this type of behaviour on our transport network.”
