A cocaine dealer who is serving a six-year jail sentence has had £111,000 confiscated by police under the proceeds of crime act.

Nicola Gibbs, xx, was arrested after police found a large amount of cannabis and cash and an unlicensed bar at her property in Leeds Place off Tollington Park.

After searches at further properties connected to Gibbs officers uncovered £63,448 worth of cocaine and cannabis as well as £13,545 in cash.

She was sentenced to six years in prison at Blackfriars Crown Court in February after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply a class A drug and several other drug related offences.

Following the arrest various bank accounts belonging to Gibbs were also identified and frozen using powers of a Restraint Order under Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

On Monday, a confiscation order for £111,693 was granted and Gibbs signed over £91,879. She was given six months to pay the remaining £19,814.

Det sup Stuart Ryan, of Islington CID, said: “This sends out a clear message to those who try to profit from crime that we will endeavour to recover any proceeds gained from illegal activities.

“The Proceeds of Crimes Act allows us to pursue, through the courts, another course of punishment and reinforces the message that crime doesn’t pay.”
