A MAN accused of a sex attack who was arrested after his alleged victim turned detective to track him down on Facebook is facing a retrial.
Alpha Gray, 30, of Aubert Park, Highbury, was said to have followed the 27-year-old down the street before pushing her down and trying to rape her. During the alleged attack late on May 29 of this year, Gray was said to have told the woman his name, age and that he lived in Holloway.
The mother-of-four discovered they had a mutual friend on the social networking site. The police eventually traced Gray’s address and he was arrested at his brother’s home later that day. Although he admitted being at a nearby club until around 1.30am, he denied carrying out the attack.
A jury was unable to reach verdicts on charges of attempted rape, sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm after more than 11 hours of deliberations at the end of a week-long trial at the Old Bailey.
Judge Timothy Pontius discharged the jury from returning verdicts after they sent a note saying they were at stalemate. Gray will now face a retrial in the new year. He was remanded in custody pending a bail application.
