Hundreds of knock-offs of designer bags and purses by the likes of Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Prada were seized in a trading standards raid.

Fake goods worth up to £13,500 were confiscated from Bedi’s Accessories in Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, when Islington Council’s trading standards team swooped on March 30.

More than 500 dodgy handbags and purses were on sale for £15 to £25 each at the store. Owner Harpal Bedi, 41, of Scotts Road, Southall, pleaded guilty to five counts of trying to sell fake goods at Highbury Magistrates Court on April 12. He was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and ordered to pay £1,286 in costs.

Jan Hart, Islington Council’s director of public protection, said: “Dodgy designer goods are illegal and bad for legitimate businesses.”
