Two men arrested in connection with the stabbing of a teenager in Canonbury Road on Friday (February 7) have been bailed.

Witnesses said the victim, 18, was stabbed in the leg and beaten with a metal pole by the attackers who also hit a passing cyclist as he tried to intervene.

Police were called at just after 7pm to the incident outside of the Myddleton Arms pub. They said the victim, who was taken to hospital, was in a stable condition.

Two men were being held by police in connection with the attack but have now been released on bail until March.

A 25-year-old man who witnessed the attack, said: “I saw about eight kids running about and looked over there was a boy on the ground being beaten with a metal pole, the other was kicking him repeatedly. At this point the victim had already been stabbed.

“A cyclist passerby tried to intervene and pushed one of them and he got hit.

“The guys had only just left before the police arrived. I spoke to the police and they said sometimes they stay there to make sure they’re dead.”

Anyone with information on the attack should call police on 101.
