Two robbers who raided Archway’s branch of Poundland have been jailed.

James Dixon, 35, of Knaphill, Surrey, and Mathew Brothers, 33, of Westbourne Park, west London, forced entry into the Holloway Road store armed with a crowbar on July 8. They threatened staff and stole £3,000.

Dixon and Brothers were found guilty of robbery and attempted robbery at Blackfriars Crown Court, and were sentenced on Thursday last week. Dixon was given 13 years and Brothers nine years and eight months.

They were caught two days after the Poundland incident while trying to steal £16,000 from a security guard delivering cash to Matalan in Cricklewood, north west London. On June 30, they had also targeted another security guard, robbing cash as he made a delivery to Santander in Finchley Road.

Det Cons Colin Anderson and Det Cons Steve O’Connell said in a joint statement: “Both Dixon and Brothers showed disregard for the safety of the public in their behaviour and would no doubt have continued to offend if not apprehended.”
