Four people have been charged with “aggravated vehicle taking” after a car smashed into pubgoers in Essex Road on Saturday night.

A 17-year-old of Highbury, a 17-year-old of Ilford, another teen, 15 and Malique Howe, 19, of Forest Hill in south London are set to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today. A fifth person, a 17-year-old of Islington, was arrested on Sunday has been bailed until May.

Police were called at 11pm after the car hit four people outside The Old Queen’s Head. The occupants ran off and officers arrested four people nearby.

Horrified witnesses saw the car swerve around the corner from Cross Street and crash into people waiting outside the pub.

Three people – two women and one man – were taken to hospital. One has since been discharged but the others remain in hospital, though their injuries are not being treated as life threatening.
