The Independent Police Complaints Commission has outlined details of its investigation into a police officer on a rape unit arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
The IPCC said it will review all 38 closed and 21 live cases dealt with by the officer, a detective constable on the specialist Sapphire Command in Islington, which deals with rapes and sex assaults, to “ensure that all potential investigative opportunities have been identified and acted upon”.
It will also scrutinise the checks made to establish his suitability for such a sensitive role and will examine his supervision.
The detective constable is accused of falsifying crime reports and has been suspended.
