Bitter rivalry between two gangs led to a 22-year-old being beaten, chased down and eventually shot dead on New Year’s Day, a court heard today.

Aarron Mckoy, a twin, was celebrating his birthday at Clerkenwell House Wine Bar in Hatton Wall, Clerkenwell on January 1 when he was gunned down as part of the long-running feud between two Hackney-based mobs.

Dean Smith, 26, from Lordship Road, Stoke Newington, a rapper also known by his street named Bungle, is said to have pulled the trigger while Perrie Dennis, 22, of Thornbury Close, Newington Green, Osman Mohammed, 23, of Homerton Road, Hackney, Daniel Oyetoro, 27, of Charlbury Crescent, Romford and Jack Nichols, 21, and Ceon Hewitt, 22, of the High Street, Wickford, are also charged with his murder.

The Old Bailey heard Mr McKoy and his friend Ricky Walkington, who were associated with the Holly Street Boys gang, were drinking in the Clerkenwell bar when violence broke out between them and the defendants, said to be part of the London Fields Boys and the Lordship Boys, which resulted in Mr Walkington being knifed.

Aftab Jafferjee QC, prosecuting, said: “Ricky Walkington was stabbed outside the club. It was a sneaky attack from behind at thigh level.”

He added: “The club was cleared of people, including the victim, who went to the pavement outside, but before Aarron McKoy could become the next victim his friend, who had been stabbed, was targeted by Dean Smith.

“There was a confrontation outside the club well captured on CCTV. In the confrontation Dean Smith produced a gun. It is likely he dropped the gun and it discharged on impact or more likely when he picked it up.

“Ricky Walkington used the opportunity to run away.”

He continued: “Within seconds, and I mean seconds, Aarron Mckoy was targeted for a physical assault. Gang rivalry had erupted in its most insipid and violent form.

“Aarron McKoy went to run away having been already physically beaten on the ground. He was chased and attacked again by Osman Mohammed who was joined by Daniel Oyetoro.

“Very soon after the second physical attack on him he was cornered having tried to get away. Possibly because he slipped and fell, the small pursuing mob shot him dead. The person holding the gun was Dean Smith.”

The trial continues.
