Loads of cops were called to Whitehall Park in Archway last night after someone thought they saw a firearm – but it was a false alarm.
Sgt Matt Stringer, from Islington Police, said: “Some of you in Whitehall Park may have noticed a significant police presence in the area this evening. This was a response to an incident where a firearm was believed to have been seen.
“Please be reassured that after investigations on scene, there is nothing of concern for the neighbourhood regarding this incident. This information was made in good faith, but was not accurate and the item believed to have been a firearm was in fact not one.”
At least there were officers present, though. As reported in the Gazette earlier this year, Archway has suffered a series of terrifying violent muggings, with neighbours bemoaning a lack of police presence as Met budget cuts bite.
Sgt Stringer still encouraged people to call in if they see anything suspicious: 999 for emergencies, 101 for non-emergencies or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
