AN ARCHWAY man has been banned from every gym in the country for repeatedly stealing from the lockers.

Steven Lawani, 48, of Hargrave Road, Islington, was served the Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo) after he was convicted of attempted burglary at a leisure centre in Haringey.

Under its terms he is not allowed into any gyms, leisure centre, swimming pool, sports centre, spa health club and possessing any membership cards for such premise in England and Wales for five years.

The ban was sought by an officer from Islington police’s anti-social behaviour team, who provided evidence of Lawani’s history of offending. He has more than ten previous convictions for similar offences across London.

Police Constable Graham Burke, from Islington’s anti-social behaviour team, said: “There is a substantial amount of evidence which shows Lawani has targeted gym lockers in sports establishments all over London for years. These personal thefts are particularly distressing for victims, and I hope this Asbo will help protect London’s gym goers and their property.”
