An arrest has been made after Victoria Line commuters were harassed by a man carrying petrol during the rush-hour on Friday.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Highbury and Islington station at 5.25pm after passengers had reported a man carrying a container and “causing some alarm”.

He continued to harass people at other stops on the southbound service, which was then stopped while BTP officers carried out a search.

Just after 7.30pm, a 28-year-old man from London was arrested at Waterloo Station on suspicion of carrying a noxious substance on the railway and a public order offence.

The BTP thanked the public for their patience.
