Arsenal star Per Mertesacker backed a campaign to get children reading for World Book Day on Thursday.
The defender was supporting a series of events across the borough’s libraries to celebrate the love of reading.
The German international said: “I was delighted to work with Islington Libraries during the 2013 Premier League Reading Stars project and would like to wish them success in celebrating World Book Day. Reading is something I enjoy and would encourage every family to enjoy.”
Cllr Janet Burgess, executive member for health an wellbeing, added: “Reading opens doors and opens minds and Islington libraries offer a warm welcome to regular readers or those who may never have set foot in a library before.”
