Six young men have been banned from parts of Islington as punishment for long campaigns of abusive and threatening behaviour towards members of the public and police.

The Asbos issued at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court not only prohibit the men from entering certain areas of the borough, but also bans them from associating with each other in any way or continuing to abuse the public, PCSOs or police officers.

The Asbos issued at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court not only prohibit the men from entering certain areas of the borough, but also ban them from associating with each other in any way or continuing to abuse the public, PCSOs or police officers.

The men are Michael Burton, 18 and Luthan Oyejobi, 19, both of Hurlock House, Hurlock Street, Blackstock Estate, Highbury; Sean Clark, 21, of Burtonwood House, Woodberry Down Estate, Finsbury Park; Stephen Roberts, 19, of no fixed abode; and Dean Fraser, 22, Ambler Road, Finsbury Park. A 17-year-old from Islington was also issued with an Asbo but his name has not been released.

The men are excluded from the Blackstock Estate, with the exception of Oyejobi and Burton who live there, Quill Street and the football and tennis courts and their 10 metre perimeters in Highbury Fields.

They are also banned from the remainder of Highbury Fields outside the hours of 9am and 6pm.

Pc Wesley Pettitt from the Highbury West Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “These young men caused a lot of misery to local residents and we are pleased that the court saw fit to issue them with Asbos which will stop them from behaving in an anti-social manner and allow residents to live normal lives.

“It is unusual to get stand alone Asbos for groups of youths and I commend the local residents for taking a stand against them and speaking out, which enabled us to gather enough evidence to take them to court.”

Islington Council leader Cllr Catherine West said: “We’re on the side of residents and won’t put up with anti-social behaviour that makes life a misery for local people. What made all the difference here is the courage of residents who decided enough was enough and helped make sure action was taken. This shows how much can be achieved when the community, police and council all work together to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.”
