The RSPCA is investigating a “sickening” cat attack in Barnsbury on Saturday night.

CCTV at a property in Cloudesley Road captured the incident at about 9.15pm.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Siobhan Trinnaman said this afternoon: “Inflicting such an unprovoked and violent attack on a defenceless cat is sickening and it’s important we track down the people responsible.

“The footage clearly shows a group of seven young men picking up a cat and throwing it onto the pavement. You can then see them booting something off screen before running off when a security light comes on outside on of the terrace townhouses.

“We’d like to hear from the cat’s owner to make sure he or she is not badly injured, and would also be interested to speak to anyone else who lives in the area to get in touch with any information which may help our investigation.”

If prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, a person could face up to six months in prison and/or a £20,000 fine.

Witnesses are asked to call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
